Justice for Kajieme Powell: Tell St. Louis Police to Adopt Mental Health Training!

St. Louis Police fatally shot 25-year-old Kajieme Powell nine times while responding to a call that he had stolen two energy drinks and baked goods from a convenience store.

See video here. Warning the video is extremely disturbing, but it shows how incredibly unnecessary the killing was.

The police report indicates that Powell threatened the officers with a knife and was only a few feet away when they shot him, but video footage shows both of these claims to be false. The video also shows Powell acting erratically, as though suffering from an untreated or under-treated mental illness. Powell's neighbors support the idea that the victim was mentally ill.

Nobody should be shot and killed for stealing a few convenience store snacks, but Powell may not have even known the difference between right and wrong. Now another man is dead because of trigger-happy police who don't understand and weren't trained on how to handle mentally ill persons. Please sign the petition to urge St. Louis Police to adopt mental health training so this senseless loss of life never happens again!

We, the undersigned, are shocked to hear of the shooting death of Kajieme Powell at the hands of St. Louis Police.
