Demand animal groomers to be licensed

Animals cannot speak for themselves, so it is up to us to speak for them. In recent years and most recently in months you hear online and on the news about animals being hurt or being killed when they are taken to groomers. Groomers are supposed to know how to handle animals and know their job, but recently dogs have been mistreated and killed by the people that we trust to give them baths, haircuts, nail trims, etc. These are not just happening at small grooming shops, but at large retailers like Petsmart and Petco. Something needs to change and groomers need to be held responsible. They need to be licensed and federally regulated. Our pets are not just animals, they are a member of our family!

Dear U.S. President and members of Congress,

I am sending you this petition to make a change in the welfare of animals, our family members.  You take them to the groomer to be washed, dried, cut, nail trim, etc. and there have been many instances where people are not getting back their family member because they have died or people are getting them back severely cut and abused.  Why are there not federal regulations on dog groomers? Why do they not have to be licensed?  Are we saying anyone can be a dog groomer if they claim they know how?

We trust animal groomers to know their job and to do their job correctly and professionally.  We do not take our animals to groomers to be abused or even killed.  How do you put a dog in to dry and leave him there while you clock out and go to a graduation.  That family did not get their dog back.  How about taking your dog for a haircut and you go to pick him or her up and they have a cute bandana around their neck, only for you to get home and take that bandana off and find out your precious animal has been cut so bad it could get infected and not one person said a word to you.  How about taking them for a cut and they hand you the dog, you carry it out because they are so little anyway and when you get home you put it down so it can go potty and they cannot walk, but the groomer did not say a word besides the fact of "he was good today, but if he isn't in a good mood do not bring him in."

It is time for a change now, not tomorrow, not next week or next year!  How would you feel if that was your family member that didn't come home or maybe they did, but they were hurt, scared, and abused.  Can you picture a child being abused like that and allowing people to do it and not having to pay the consequence?  Picture an animal yelping, barking, trying to bite because they are so scared because we trusted that these people knew what they were doing.  Please make this change, show the world our animals are family members and that they deserve the best in treatment.  Make regulations stricter on groomers, make them be licensed individuals just like our salons, beauty shops, barber shops that we have for our two legged family members, our four legged members deserve the same!
