Prevent Santorini Animal Welfare Association form closing

It's a message from Santorini Animal Welfare Association - SAWA:
!!!! HELP US – THE ISLAND’S GOVERNMENT ARE CLOSING THE SHELTER AND FORCING OUR DOGS ON TO THE STREET !!!!
As many of you already know, the president of Katerados has spent the past two years sabotaging SAWA shelter and trying to force us to close. His dirty tactics have included bulldozing our road to prevent water and food from being supplied to the shelter and has constantly threatened and bullied shelter leader, Christina Kaloudi. Most recently, he has summoned SAWA to court, accusing us of being illegal. The trial date is 20.10. and it remains to be seen how the court decides.
We have been forbidden to report publicly on the advice of the SAWA lawyer, so as not to exacerbate the situation for us. But now the pressure and bullying just before the trial date has increased to a degree that we must defend ourselves!
The mayor of the entire island of Santorini has now decided to close the shelter before the trial and to PUT ALL OUR DOGS ON THE STREET. This is to ease their role in the trial – now they can simply say that the shelter is closed, so now they no longer need to find a new location etc, etc.
THEY ARE AT THE SHELTER RIGHT NOW, TRYING TO FORCE DOGS ON TO THE STREET! This means certain death for the dogs. Most of the dogs are big puppies that grew up at the shelter, unable to fend for themselves, so it is only a matter of time until they die on the streets as a result of car accidents, poisoning or through being shot by the locals - another ongoing problem. We also suspect that they intend to kill the dogs as soon they are on the streets – and they don’t care that 38 of these dogs are already adopted through our animal welfare groups in Germany, Denmark and Sweden, and are simply waiting for a flight to leave the island!

We all want Santorini Animal Welfare Association to continiue it's work because it's very important. The animals in SAWA also have right to live and can not be forced on to the street. A lot of dogs (38) have been adopted an could find new home in other countries. Closing the shelter will take this oppurtinty from them, it also can make Santorini less safe place if so many animals will be on the street. It can affect on tourism, because most of people will be angry if all this animals will end up on the streets or be killed. It will be natural that they will be avoiding Santorini and rest of Greece too. SAWA not only gives animals place to stay and oppurtinity to find a new home, it also protect the island. This situation can become an international scandal and Santorini nor Greece don't need negative publicity so please consider not closing this shelter and try to eithdraw this case from the court.
