We can no longer afford to leave it up to parents to educate their children on these matters. Parents may not give their kids adequate information about the subject, because it is beyond their comfort level, and kids are turning to other sources for information. We know that rape affects both men and women, but campus rape has now become an epidemic, and statistics show that every 9 in 10 victims are women. Male rape has also not been shown the attention that it deserves. I have known way too many people who have been victims of sexual assult. I refuse to accept the rape epidemic as part of our reality. If comprehensive sex education becomes mandatory, kids will grow up to be more educated, and sexually responsible citizens. If we hope to put an end to sexual assault, this would be a good place to start.
