Make the laws stronger on animal breeders!

Between 4 and 8 billion pets are killed each year in shelters. In most states, 50% of those pets are purebred, 5% have ACK papers, and 1% are retired show dogs. Breeders deny that their dogs ever end up in shelters, yet there are purebreds abandoned there every day.

Backyard breeders, puppymills, and pet stores don't have to answer to anyone about the cruel conditions in which they fuel this bad breeding. They sell puppies and kittens they know are from bad breeders, bad genetics, bad health, and will most likely not live to see their first birthday, if they do they aren't normal functioning dogs and are most likely to be used for breeding.

If it were required of breeders to keep records of their "stock" and where it goes and to spay or neuter the animals before they leave breeder custody, not only would it weed out the people wanting to use them for money it would discourage bad breeders from starting up. It would make it easier to find bad breeders because they would sell puppies or kittens without altering them. There should be more strict laws that requir people wanting to breed to pay a tax for every puppy they produce and a fine for selling it unaltered and if it ends up in the shelter.

Shelters charge because the money goes to pay for the medical and care of the animals dumped on them, breeders charge because animals are money to them. Take away the market and the low lifes will fall away too. It should be illegal to sell puppies and kittens in stores, they should help the shelters instead by housing some of the homeless animals to get them exposed to the public. Pet stores will tell their customers their animals are from good quality breeders, and most of the uninformed will fall for it, but the fact is that good breeders don't sell their animals behind glass or to just anyone. They do a full check on the people and match them to a puppy/kitten that will best suit them. Good breeders put 3 to 4 times more money into their animals than they will ever get out of them.

Over 50% of shelter animals are purebred, 5% have papers, and 1% are show animals. According to breeders, none of their animals ever end up in shelters. They sell unaltered babies that will reproduce and their babies will reproduce. Where did the purebreds and papered animals come from then?

Breeders don't need your money, they need your business to stay in business. Shelters need you to adopt the animals that are already here so they can save the next batch the breeders send their way. Animals aren't stock or products or accessories, they are living creatures that need the help of humans to save them.

Don't shop, adopt! Don't buy while shelter pets die! Don't buy and the pet producing industry will die! Save a life, speak for those that can't, fight for those that can't fight for themselves. Be a true animal lover, be a hero.
