Change the handgun purchase age to 18

In the state of Georgia, one cannot purchase a handgun until he is 21. However, at 18, one can purchase ammunition as well as rifles and shotguns. A person can also be gifted a handgun to use as protection and keep the handgun in his apartment or vehicle, however cannot purchase one himself. There are many young people living on their own in apartments, and the current law prevents them from owning a handgun for protection, unless they are lucky enough to be gifted one by a family member. Handgun calibers are known to be the best option for self-defense, so the current law prohibits an individual under 21 from protecting himself with what most consider the best choice for defense. I am calling for the legal purchase age of handguns to be changed to 18 due to the importance of self-preservation and the flaws within the current law.
