Enforce Calming Measures For Jetskis & Speedboats at Pattayas Islands

Over the past few years tourism has grown in Pattaya and with that more tourists have been taking trips to the islands for relaxation and water sports.
Most of these water sports that make up the largest group of tourists are Swimming, Snorkeling & Scuba diving on the reefs and seas around Koh Sak and Koh Larn.

Over the past few years it has been possible to rent Jetskis to speed around the islands and hire speed boats to take you to these islands.

Currently there are no regulations in force and now Scuba Diving , Snorkeling and swimming at these island is becoming a very dangerous past time.

Speed boats and jetskis regularly come so fast across the water and into the bay that any tourist in the water is at a very high risk of being hit by one of these craft which are usually operated at the hands of a complete novice.
If someone was to be hit by a jetski or speed boat the injury would probably result in death, and this again would tarnish the image of Pattaya as a tourist friendly holiday destination.

We are asking for The Lord Mayor of Pattaya Itthiphol Kunplome to work with the Pattaya marine police to enforce strict laws as to the use of Jetskis and Speedboats in these Areas Koh Larn,& Koh Sak .

1 We would like to make a 500 meter perimeter "No Wake Zone" around the islands.
This means boats and jetskis will have to be on idle to cruise into the islands.

2. We would like to see marker buoys installed as guide lines for speed boats and jetskis to come into the islands. No speeding between these Buoys.

3. We would like to see marine police, patrolling the islands and giving fines to anyone that breaks the speed limits. (This gives revenue to the marine police and the town hall)

4. All jetskis rental companies should give customer a code of conduct listed below:

1, No speeding between buoys
2, No Speeding around dive boats
3, No Speeding Across The Reefs- (The reef need protection they are a large tourist attraction and suffer damage from jetskis).
4, Fines of 2,000 baht if these rules are broken (These will be enforced by marine Police giving them a revenue source which will allow them to be out in the areas that are worst affected).

5. All craft that work around these islands should be fitted with propellor gaurds, this includes Dive Boats, Speed boats and long tail boats.
Failiure to have the gaurd inplace results in  2,000 baht fine.
(Propellor gaurds can be made for all craft very cheaply, and will protect tourists, turtles and dolphins and also protect the propellors from fouling on mooring ropes).

6. Bring in random drug and alcohol test for all boat and jet ski operators around the island top be carried out by the marine police weekly.
After all the ferry disaster in 2012 which killed 6 people was due to the Captain being high on drugs and alcohol.

We the public and local businesses of Pattaya respectively ask Itthiphol Kunplome to protect tourists and the local businesses that work around these island before we see another tragedy or death on the beaches of Pattaya.

We need to act now so please sign and "SHARE" this petition.
Thanks from a very concerned Diver !!!

Dear Khun Itthiphol Kunplome,

we respectively ask you to please protect the tourists that come to Thailand and spend there vacation at the islands of Koh Sak and Koh Larn from the dangers of high speed powered water craft (Jet Skis and Speed Boats).

We would like to see marine police on stanby at the island of Koh Sak and enforce fines to anyone that proceeds to ride dangerously in the diving and swimming areas of the islands.

We suggest a no wake zone approx 500 meters from the reefs and beaches and that all high speed craft be fitted with propellor gaurds and given a simple set of rules/guidelines that can be followed.

We do not want to see anyones business affected by these measures and I am sure that you will agree that divers, swimmers and jetski businesses will only benefit from safety guide lines put in place by the town hall and marine police.

Thank You for your concern and understanding and we hope that these suggestion can be implemented as soon as possible

Yours Sincerely

Gwyn Mills - (On Behalf of The Pattaya Tourists and Businesses)
