Protect your right to choose who gives you dietary advice!

Oklahoma Senate Bill 615 would take away the right of many qualified providers to offer nutrition advice. In fact, if SB 615 passes, many well trained practitioners, some of whom have the same or greater training than Registered Dieticians, could serve a six month sentence for giving dietary advice.

SB 615 would take Oklahoma backwards.

• Having access to nutrition advice and the guidance to implement it is key to Oklahoman’s improved health, as is having the right to choose from whom to seek advice.
• SB 615 is an anti-competitive bill suppressing a growing field in order to favor Registered Dietitians
• Dietitians claim this bill is to protect the public from harm, yet this claim is not based on data. The data of harm from poor nutrition, however, is extensive and unequivocal.
• This bill would regulate the discussion of publicly available information regarding an unconrolled substance—food.

I do not want legislators deciding for me whom I can and cannot consult for nutrition guidance. Registered Dietitians are trained in a particular philosophy of nutrition advice. There are many science-based approaches to nutrition and quality training programs outside of dietetics. SB 615 does not reflect current science, the increased need for nutrition guidance, or the preferences of consumers like myself. I want to decide what is best for my needs and the needs of my family.

Please VOTE NO on SB 615. Protect my right to choose whom I consult for dietary recommendations.
RE: OPPOSE SB 615

Dear Oklahoma Senators,

I am urging you to vote NO on SB 615, a bill that would amend Oklahoma’s Dietitian Act from title protection to exclusive scope of practice. If passed, would make the activities of many qualified providers of nutrition advice illegal.

SB 615 would take Oklahoma backwards.

• Having access to nutrition advice and the guidance to implement it is key to Oklahoman’s improved health as is having the choice of who to seek advice from
• SB 615 is an anti-competitive bill suppressing a growing field in order to favor Registered Dietitians
• Dietitians claim this bill is to protect the public from harm yet this claim is not based on data. In contrast, the data of harm from poor nutrition is extensive and unequivocal
• This bill would regulate the discussion of publicly available information regarding an uncontrolled substance — food.

I do not want legislators deciding for me whom I can and cannot see for nutrition guidance. Dietitians are trained in a particular philosophy of nutrition advice.

Sincerely,
