ISIS wants us to reject refugees. Tell Congress to reject this un-American, anti-refugee legislation!

Speaker Paul Ryan and Sen. Rand Paul, both Republicans, are introducing legislation to stop the victims of Daesh (ISIS) from coming to the U.S. as refugees.

Nothing could be more un-American than this rejection of hospitality, justice, and moral responsibility. Sign this petition today, and call on Congress to reject these dangerous bills and welcome the suffering children!

The brand-new Speaker thinks, "We shouldn't accept any Syrian refugees without complete assurance those we are welcoming intend us no harm." But that makes no sense. We already have assurance that refugees mean us no harm. There is a rigorous screening process, and as a result, NONE of the 750,000 resettled here since 9/11 have been arrested for domestic terrorism! These refugees are fleeing from Daesh.

In fact, turning away refugees is exactly what Daesh wants. Foreign policy expert Adam Taylor says, "What seems almost certain is that [ISIS] wants you to equate refugees with terrorists. In turn, it wants refugees to equate the West with prejudice against Muslims and foreigners." If we want to oppose Daesh, we have no choice: We MUST welcome its victims.

The desire to turn them away from our shores is chilling. Much of the opposition, especially from Ted Cruz and Jeb Bush, carries a terrifying anti-Muslim tone that has no place in a nation of religious freedom. Let us remember it was our own Iraq War that created the power vacuum that Daesh is filling - we have a moral responsibility.

There are safe ways to bring refugees to the Statue of Liberty and let them share in her message, a message so many of our own refugee ancestors heard:

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Tell Congress: Do not reject American values by rejecting vulnerable refugees! Reject this bigoted legislation today!

Do not reject the American values of hospitality and justice by rejecting vulnerable refugees! We already have a rigorous process for approving refugees; we just need to accept more of the Syrian refugees who apply under that process. Their region was destablized because of our war, so it's up to us to live into our moral responsbility to care for them now. These are the victims of ISIS, and we can oppose ISIS by letting them in.

I am also terrified by the anti-Muslim undercurrent that seems to mark many of the statements made by refugee critics. If we want to support any religious freedom, we must support ALL religious freedom!

Reject any anti-refugee and thus un-American legislation today!

Like Joe Biden said, "For us to turn our back now on refugees is turning our back on who we are. The only way terror wins is if they cause you to change your value system."
