A large proportion of Agencies providing services to people with intellectual disabilties have been experiencing significant recruitment and retention challenges, many which have now reached the crisis stage, because of inadequate government funding.
While Agencies have been tolerant of this Government’s inaction for some time, the risks to the individuals and the employees are far too great to continue to wait patiently. Inadequately trained staff and an understaffed workforce has significant, negative and harmful impact on the individuals with disabilities being supported. The health, safety and well-being of employees and participants are being negligently over-looked by the Government of Saskatchewan.
The Grassroots Steering Committee was established by a group of parents, agency board members, employees and interested individuals that believe that this is not acceptable. The Grassroots Steering Committee was also forced to stay anonomous to this point because of fear of Ministry retribution against the agency(s) they represent or are receiving services from. THIS IS NOT FAIR!
IT IS TIME FOR US TO STAND UNITED AND SUPPORT THE WORK BEING DONE ON EVERYONE'S BEHALF.
