In 2006, SF Green Clean launched its mission locally – in the heart of the Presidio of San Francisco – to prove the concept of green wet-cleaning as a commercially viable alternative to dry-cleaning, with the goal of compelling the global industry to abandon its conventionally toxic, polluting process in favor of ecologically sound, sustainable practices. From its longtime home at 222 Halleck Street in the Presidio, SF Green Clean has been privileged to serve the households and businesses of the Presidio and beyond with the chemical-free care of their clothing and fabrics. As is the case for all tenants within the Presidio’s magnificent real estate, SF Green Clean must lease its space from The Presidio Trust – an agency of the federal government and the per se master landlord of every rentable square foot of the national park land whose environment and history the Trust was established to preserve and steward on behalf of the people of the United States.

Without explanation or the benefit of legitimate dialogue around an alternative equitable solution, the Presidio Trust refused to renew SF Green Clean's seven-year lease at 222 Halleck Street or permit its relocation to another commercial property within the Presidio. Despite SF Green Clean’s desperate attempts through multiple channels over the past year-plus to find its way to a different result, the Trust has remained staunchly resolute in its effort to eject SF Green Clean from the community, and is poised to succeed in doing so on Monday, September 1.
SF Green Clean has complied unerringly with the terms of its lease – paying its rent on time, complying with the Trust’s exacting dictates for historical preservation in every facility improvement, acting with accountability at every turn. SF Green Clean has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars to responsibly restore, build out, and maintain a safe, healthy, and efficient plant at 222 Halleck. The cost of dismantling and reinstalling at another suitable location — were it even available — exceeds $300,000. SF Green Clean pays a living wage to 12 full-time employees, the majority of whom have worked with the company for more than five years and all of whom will lose their jobs if SF Green Clean is shuttered.

Stop the Presidio Trust from ejecting SF Green Clean from the Presidio on September 1, and demand an equitable arrangement for SF Green Clean that reflects the Trust’s implicit commitment to local, small businesses striding purposefully toward the sustainable economy’s triple bottom line – People. Planet. Profit.

Please sign this petition to save SF Green Clean, adding your individual voice in support of GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY and innovative small businesses working every day to make a difference in your local community and, in turn, our world.

Thank you!
