Stop the Terrible Abuse of Kittens in Cruel Kitten Mills!

  • by: Eve Hart

Innocent kittens and their mothers should not have to suffer!  A KITTEN MILL is a breeding location where purebred cats and kittens are forced to live in inhumane, filthy conditions. They are often crammed in small spaces, go without medical attention and live in their own waste.  The mother cats live in confined spaces with no love, barely enough to eat and are forced to have litter after litter of kittens until their bodies are broken down to the point where eventually they are no longer able to reproduce, at which time they are often killed.  The kittens and their mothers frequently suffer from infections, deformations, starvation and parasites.  Puppy Mills are equally cruel and tragic!

Our federal government, through the USDA, is supposed to regulate cat and dog breeding locations, but their standards are far too lenient and they rarely inspect the breeding locations, allowing breeders to get away with terrible cruelty!  Kitten Mills and Puppy Mills are a terrible problem which the government allows to go relatively unchecked.

And now, the problem is even worse because under the new administration, the USDA seems to be even less concerned about the welfare of kittens and puppies.  In February 2017 the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) PURGED ALL ANIMAL WELFARE RECORDS FROM ITS WEBSITE, preventing the public from seeing reports of mistreatment of animals by breeders across the country.  After weeks of public outcry, the agency has put only a small fraction of the cache back online, still leaving off crucial reports on puppy and kitten mills, private research facilities, and zoos that constitute the public record of commercial animal abuse, making it even  easier for abusive breeders to continue torturing innocent creatures.

Sign this petition to tell the USDA to immediately put animal welfare records back up on it's website, strengthen its rules regarding humane breeding regulations and increase inspections of breeders!  Let's stand together to stop cruel breeders!

Three More Actions You Can Take:

1) YOU CAN CONTACT YOUR LOCAL CITY MAYOR AND CITY COUNSEL MEMBERS asking them to please support laws prohibiting pet stores from selling dogs and cats (and in some cases rabbits) from commercial breeding facilities and only allow pet stores to sell animals if they are sourced from rescues or shelters. Tell them that Kitten Mills and Puppy Mills are often terribly inhumane and should not be supported.

2) YOU CAN ALSO EMAIL AND/OR CALL YOUR LOCAL CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVE through this contact website:    http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/

Tell your representative the following:  (Paste this into an email and/or read over the phone):

"Dear _______________  (Representative)

Animals are being housed in inhumane conditions by breeders at puppy mills and kitten mills in our state.  I am one of your constituents and I care about cruelty! Please introduce a law   geared at stopping puppy and kitten mills. Many of these laws take the form of retail pet sale ordinances. Please support laws prohibiting pet stores from selling dogs and cats (and in some cases rabbits) from commercial breeding facilities and only allow pet stores to sell animals if they are sourced from rescues or shelters.   Also, please tell the USDA to stop allowing breeders to get away with forcing kittens and puppies to live in inhumane, filthy conditions, where they are often crammed into small spaces, go without medical attention and live in their own waste.  The mother cats live in confined spaces with no love, barely enough to eat and are forced to have litter after litter of kittens until their bodies are broken down to the point where eventually they are no longer able to reproduce, at which time they are often killed.  These poor creatures frequently suffer from infections, deformations, starvation and parasites.  Also, please pressure the USDA to immediately put animal welfare records, which were removed in February,  back up on it's website, strengthen its rules regarding humane breeding regulations and increase inspections of breeders!
