Demand That The Mauritian Government Protect Marine Ecosystems By Declaring More Protected Areas.

Mauritius is a paradise island known for its great beaches and vibrant marine life in the Indian Ocean. Mauritius has about 2 million square kilometers of Exclusive Economic Zone which are teaming with marine life of all kinds.

Sadly, only 2 marine protected areas currently exist. Development on the coast, extensive and unregulated fishing have greatly damaged the marine ecosystems throughout the Republic.

Development is good BUT sustainable development which helps protect our unique ecosystems as well as creating prosperity is even better. We cannot jeopardise the future of Mauritius by not thinking long term.

People of the World, please sign the petition to ask the Prime Minister to use his influence and power to do more to protect Mauritius' unique marine ecosystems. We demand that more areas are declared protected zones with enough funds and resources allocated for protection and tougher laws which will stop savage constructions on the coast.

Thank you.
