UK: PROTECT THE ELEPHANTS AND MAKE THE IVORY BAN!

Each year, over 30,000 elephants are poached for their ivory, in order to be sold on the black market. Ivory is in huge demand And is extremely profitable, but off course in order to get Ivory an elephant must die. The worlds best known species, the African elephant is in grave danger, with poaching being an ever more frequent acurance, it is being pushed to the brink of extinction. With some experts saying they WILL be extinct in our own lifetime if things don't change. Sadly, the African Elephant is just one of the species of Elephant being persecuted for their ivory. The Sumatran Elephant is suffering also, in fact it's critically endangered. Recent estimates indicate that more than 100,000 elephants were illegally killed between 2010 and 2012. That number is increasing substantially, with up to 100 African elephants being killed each day.

The UK has a very long and bloody history of ivory trading. During the 1800's the UK was the worlds biggest killer of elephants for ivory,  killing over 44,000 elephants a year to meet its own demands. Although that number has dropped, Ivory is still being traded and sold right under our noses. Meaning that Elephants will still be made to suffer and die at the hands of human greed. So it is so important for the UK to ban the Ivory trade and show full commitment to protecting elephants.

The UK should also acknowledge its role in the slaughter of 20 million elephants over the last 200 years and introduce an immediate ban on the domestic trade of all ivory from elephants. Making this step will protect elephants from dying out. We want the government to take the pledge and make the ban. This should have happened years ago! The government needs to show it is willing to commit to saving the elephants and work with the many other countries that have already made the ban. Other country's like China and the USA have taken this step. We need to do the same! Please COMMENT and tell the government why you are signing and why this petition is important to you. Please don't just sign, SHARE, SHARE, SHARE. Thank You! Xx

Thank you so much for signing. Now your challenge is to share it with as many people as you can, to increase your impact! Xx

Update #28 years ago
The royal family have called a series of conferences to discuss the slaughter of these majestic, beautiful and iconic wildlife, and how they can protect them further. Our last signature was 4 hours ago! Plus we are going hours without a single signature. We need more signatures! Please keep sharing and spreading the word. Other wise I will not be able to send it, which will mean we will not succeed. Thank You! X
