Save the Cats in the Roxborough Community

The stray feral cats in the Roxborough community are allowed to roam free in the neighborhoods; they have been a major problem for quite sometime. At this point we have already contacted animal control for both Jefferson and Douglas counties. They have been out to investigate on more then one occasion, they have also talked to the known owners about catching the cats to spay and neuter them. The cats are constantly reproducing and having new litters, thus creating more cats, making it harder to catch them. The owners claimed that they were catching these cats and fixing them, this is not the case, there are far too many cats for the owner to catch and fix. The animal control in both counties has informed us that because the owners said that they are catching and fixing the cats, that there is nothing that they can do. Another huge problem in this particular neighborhood is that there are multiple homeowners with large dogs that live around the area. These dogs are required to be leashed, and/or contained in their yard at all times; the cats are free to roam the streets and other properties. This becomes a problem because, the dog's instinct is to protect its territory, which results in the cats being killed. Not only are they being killed by the domestic animals, but also by the wild animals such as foxes, coyotes, and the much larger wild animals that are in this area because they are wild and have no boundaries. Also another problem in this specific neighborhood is that these cats are defecating in and on other homeowners’ property. Including yards, inside cars if they are left open, garages, driveways, etc., this is unfair for the homeowners to have to deal with because these cats are allowed to do whatever they please. If this problem continues down the path it is going more and more of these cats are going to be killed as nature takes its course, the humane way to deal with this problem is to require the cats to be kept inside, fixed, and/or taken somewhere where they can be cared for. These cats deserve families and the do not deserve to have to fight for their lives on a nightly basis. The problem needs to be taken care of, the cats should be able to have a fighting chance, they need to be caught and fixed, and also they should not be allowed to roam free for other animals to prey on. No one wants to deal with their pet fighting with another animal, and it is absurd that this problem even arises. To help the value of our homes and community to stay where it is and not decrease, please sign this petition to help save these cats and to help give them better lives.
