Dear Delsea,
Congratulations on all the titles you have won that are sports related, it really is so great that so many have been won by Delsea sports alone. But what we ask is that the arts in our school not feel as though they are less.
From removing murals wthout our knowledge to cutting the marching band off in the middle of their show during the peprally to play music off an ipad, the arts students have begun to feel inferior to others in the school. We are not nothing, we are the reason the school can do what we do in the amazing way we have for years, we are the reason the football games have some entertainment.
I was once told by the principal that Friday night lights aren't the same until he hears the marching band. This comment came from the same man who told us to stop playing so he could play music from a playlist. Theatre, Art classes, Tv Video, Marching Band. We arent all just another class or club, we are not nothing. We may not all compete for a title (although the marching band does) but we are all doing something we love to do. We have begun to feel as thoug we do not atter and are wothless and that just because we are not a sport it doesn't mean we should to be treated like nothing. This feeling has festered in the hearts of many students for quite some time, so please Delsea Regional High school stop, and think about how you have made us feel when you don't reconize us at peprallys or on the morning announcement, paint over our murals, stop our shows, and treat us differently. We are your students, we all do extraordinary things and we ask that you start treating us like the extraordinary people we are; just like those who play sports or do other things.
To sign this petition you are signing to support the arts in the schools, to show us that we are not nothing, show us that we are something, and give us the equal recognition that we deserve.
We are worth more then a pat on the back, we are worth as much as those who do sports. We deserve the same appreciation and recognition at a school wide peprally as all the sports teams have. Arts in schools matter. We matter.
