To stop the University of Tennessee from leasing oil/gas drilling rights in the Cumberland Forest.

On the 28th of February, 2013, there will be a meeting held by the University of Tennessee Board of Trustees. During this meeting the board is scheduled to vote on a lease of 8,600 acres of public land in the Cumberland Forest to energy companies seeking to drill for natural gas and oil. Especially concerning in this regard is that Tennessee remains extremely lax in its regulations regarding hydraulic fracturing. This process, by which natural gas and oil can be extracted, has been proven to be far more destructive than any other presently accepted forms of oil and natural gas extraction.
