Demand an End to Dog Chaining, Abuse, and Neglect

Please sign this petition if you believe that our pets deserve a warm home without chains and beatings. The fate of your furry friends in our hands.

I am writing today in anticipation of Maryland Humane Lobby Day. Every day hundreds of dogs in every county in this great state, including the City of Baltimore, are chained, starved, beaten, and left for dead. This has been one of the coldest winters in recent history, and yet so-called pets are left in the elements to slowly and brutally freeze to death. Pit bulls are used for bait, dogs that some people call “man’s best friend” are left alone and scared, with seemingly no one to come to their defenses.

I am writing in the hopes that my congressmen and women will enact legislation to protect our furry friends from abuse, torture, and neglect. I am specifically speaking to chaining laws. Many poor defenseless dogs are tied to a post, tree, or fence with nothing but a 5 foot chain to keep them there. Walking in circles around your own excrement, choking yourself to death wrapped around your own painful chain, is irreprehensible, immoral, unethical, and just plain wrong. No one, human or animal, deserves to live a life of neglect.

Pets, whether they be dogs, cats, ferrets, or whatever species, only want to love and be loved. Four sheets of plywood, or a small choke chain is neither a house nor a home. A life of neglect, starvation, physical and mental abuse, is a life of misery and despair. I implore you, esteemed members of the General Assembly to take action. I plead with you to enact legislation making chaining illegal. I also urge you to penalize those who leave their dogs, so-called pets, in sweltering vehicles in the summer, and out in the frigid cold in the winter.

Please, protect our furry loved ones from the elements, from chaining, from beatings, and from all forms of abuse and neglect. We, and we alone, are the only ones who can protect them. We alone are responsible.

Thank you for your time and for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Sharon Trego & Family
