Support of Children's Woodland Park at Wolf's Lane

Since 2011, the Junior League of Pelham has partnered with the Village of Pelham to imagine, design and build a natural-themed play space for the children of our community in the heart of our downtown.  Imagine some of your favorite childhood games - skipping across a “river” of tree stumps, crawling high through the vines of a magic land or playing hide-and-go-seek in the tall grass.  Together, we can bring those treasured memories to our children.  Partering with the design expertise of Fred Martin of Environment Designs, responsible for the play areas at Stamford and Greenburg Nature Centers, will allow us to create a unique woodland themed play scape that allows children's imaginations to soar in a safe space to discover and interact with their environment.

While Westchester County has an abundance of outdoor places, we are looking to build something closer to home that truly represents what we love about the outdoors. Grab a cup of coffee or lunch from one of our Pelham businesses and head out to meet with friends and their kids to play in our very own downtown.

Please help us ensure this park becomes a reality - sign the Petition today (second tab above) and send a message to our Village government that this is the right thing to do for Pelham families, businesses and the community as a whole.

As a resident of Pelham, I am in support of the Junior League of Pelham’s proposed children’s woodland park at the intersection of Second Street and Wolf’s Lane.  Pelham has limited green space available for residents to enjoy, and developing an otherwise underutilized park to create a special place for children and families to convene, enjoy and develop a sense of community is a wonderful opportunity for our town.

The natural-style play space being proposed is very complementary to the unique character of our downtown. It’s a way for our children to have the experiences that we did – walking along a fallen tree, climbing branches and playing hide and go seek among tall grasses and shrubs – reconnecting with nature and their imaginations.

Community is not created in our backyards.  Community is created and enhanced in the common spaces where residents can connect with one another, businesses and with the town in which we live.  This park gives residents another reason to come and stay downtown. I am in support of this initiative, as I believe this project will benefit our children, families, businesses and community as a whole.
