We the Undersigned hereby urge the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation to provide a space in the Proposed Bushwick Inlet Park in which to host the live music and cultural events that have taken place in the McCarren Park Pool in the summers of 2006, 2007, and 2008
We believe that live concerts are a vital part of any area as musically and culturally rich as the Williamsburg and Greenpoint communities, and that losing such a unique venue as the McCarren Park Pool without providing an alternative space would be a huge blow to the musical, cultural and general communities.

4 of my closest friend and I are travelling to New York City in the summer of 2009 and marked into our schedule a trip to the McCarren Park Pool for on the pool pareties. We don't have anything like this in australia and were really looking forward to it until we heard the news that the pool was being renovated and there would be no pool party. Please let jelly throw us a pool party, we can help to really put thisw on the international map and make it more of a tourist attraction for people.
Regards
Luke

I think the decision to re-convert MCPP back into a splashing center makes no sense as concerts over the last few years in this terrific neighborhood gave the community a cultural and artistic venue unlike any other.
I do not know how PArks and Recreation Dept. came to this decision but it seems it was not adequately debated and thought through.
I strongly urge the Parks and Rec Dept. to provide a space in the Bushwick Inlet Park to hold concerts and cultural events.
Sincerely,
Michael Phillips

I have been there to TV on th Radio gig in summer 07, what a lovely place. It atracts so many amazing ppl. McCarren Park Pool as a center of culture is far more important than all venues on Broadway. Greetings from central Europe:)

If Jacob believes a music venue is needed in this area, then I believe and support his efforts.

I first attended one of the concerts, then a movie, and McCarren pool towards the end of the summer. I cannot believe the venue will be closed. To see such a large crowd, all enjoying themselves and the show, while knowing it was never going to happen again, made me cry. That's right. A GROWN MAN CRIED at the thought of losing such an amazing and valuable event space, and series of events. DON"T LET IT END!!!

It is far more beneficial to the character of Brooklyn and Williamsburg for the McCarren Park Pool to serve as a concert venue than as an actual Pool.

Please create a new concert space! I've loved JellyNYC's free shows at The Pool! I hope this lovely tradition won't die just because Wburg real estate developers need to convert McCarren into Olympic size to lure potential condo owners!

I have been a Williamsburg Northside resident since 1996. One of the greatest catalysts in the gentrification of this area has been the local music scene, and that's why McCarren Pool became the perfect compliment to our neighborhood. While I like the idea of a large swimming pool that would benefit all residents of north Brooklyn, the consequences of losing a performance space of this size, at the height of it's popularity, would be detrimental to the image of the neighborhood (and let's not kid ourselves: Williamsburg thrives on "image"). If a performance venue of the size of McCarren Pool is not duplicated somewhere within the neighborhood, then that will be the surest sign that the "Manhattan Real Estate Sharks" have successfully taken-over Williamsburg, forcing the music out, and thus turning it into a sadly soulless "Condoburg".

It's the arts presence in Williamsburg/Greenpoint that has revitalized this area (and is ultimately responsible for the explosion in condo development!). People flock to this area for the same reasons they came to Greenwich Village, Soho, and TriBecCa. This is New York's arts hotspot! We must keep it alive!

Part of the reason why I moved to this area (directly across from the pool) was because of the energy these concerts bring to the area. This would be just one more way for the community to enjoy its resources.

We would love to keep the free outdoor concerts somewhere in Williamsburg. At the pool, they provided a great place, outdoors, where my friends and I could all meet up once a week in the summer to catch up. Especially in the summer months, it gets rather painful being trapped in our small apartments, so having a space so large, OUTDOORS, is just so amazingly beautiful. Please provide a space in Bushwick Inlet Park!

When I heard that the "pool" was finally going to happen all I could think of was what was going to happen to my favorite summer venue. From shows to the Renegade craft fair I've spent quite a bit of time at McCarren Pool Park and would hate for these things to disappear from Williamsburg.

Having an outdoor concert space with free access to arts and culture adds value to the community and increases pride and involvement. The best way to keep a community strong and safe is to get people invested in it. The McCarren Pool parties created that investment, if you get rid of a space people value the value of the neighborhood goes down, and that doesn't help anyone.
