Demand Inergy reveal the quantitative risk assessment (QRA) results to the public!

Inergy is a pipeline and natural gas storage company with 3,000 employees and annual sales of about $1.8 billion. Its market capitalization on the New York Stock Exchange is about $1.5 billion.

In 2008, the company acquired U.S. Salt as part of a broad plan to “build an integrated gas storage and transportation hub in the Northeast,” according to its press announcement.

That hub exploits the recent drilling boom in the gas-rich Marcellus Shale made possible by a controversial new drilling technique called high-volume, horizontal hydrofracking. The method dominates drilling in Pennsylvania but is not yet allowed in New York. This process is closely linked with the hyrdrofracking industry, a process that would negatively impact the integrity of the Finger Lakes Region if allowed to proceed. The citizens of the area deserve to know the risks involved. For the complete article visit: http://www.dcbureau.org/20110207166/natural-resources-news-service/new-york-state-to-require-environmental-impact-statement-for-large-scale-lpg-storage-in-ny-watershed.html

Many people and groups, including the Watkins Glen Village Board and the Town of Reading Planning Board, requested that Inergy perform an independent Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) on the proposed Gas Storage Facility to assess on-site and off-site risk involved in storing and transporting this quantity of LPG on Seneca Lake.  Many requested that this be completed at Inergy's expense by  a firm of the community's choosing.  Well, Inergy has chosen and completed a QRA.  And they will not share this with the public.  WHY?

Please sign the petition to demand the DEC reveal the complete QRA results to the public!
We the undersigned respectfully urge, no, demand, the Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) on the proposed Gas Storage Facility on Seneca Lake be made available to the public. We feel the citizens of the area deserve to know the risks ssociated with storing and transporting the proposed quantity of LPG in the salt mines. This area is rich in history and beauty, the home to thousands of families and small businesses, who depend upon the integrity of the land and water for survival. Further industrialization has many possible side effects, most of which potentially jeopardize the health and well-being of the communities, farms, wine and tourist industries. It would be an outrage and an injustice to impose serious risk to the inhabitants who have raised families here for several centuries. We urge you to consider what is morally and ethically right for the well-being of "many", above and beyond financial gain to the "few."
