Tom Tyler on a United States Commemorative Stamp

Tom Tyler was a B-western film star during the silent and sound eras who made over 180 films, with most of his work preserved on DVD. At the height of his career, he played the title role in what is now considered the greatest movie serial ever made, "The Adventures of Captain Marvel" in 1941 - the first superhero on film. Well known for his exceptional athletic abilities - he was the original muscle man in the history of film making and handsome appearance, Tom's portrayal of heroes deserves to be remembered in his contributions to film.
