Free Lamar “LA” Brown-A Case of Right versus Wrong
For Lamar “LA” Brown life has been put on pause Day after day Month after month... And year after year he is forced to deal with the fact that his freedom no longer exist A freedom that knowing what he knows now he would protect it with all of his strength A freedom that if he could have it back would never again be taken for granted As a brother struggles to make peace with his past and to understand what life has become He holds on to the dream that one day he will be able to reconcile with freedom Dreaming of the day that freedom would call his name And praying everyday that the light for an opportunity for freedom has not been blown But for Lamar “LA” Brown the thought of having freedom again is very challenging and painful Because in his case freedom has been stolen Yes! A crime was committed and a penalty must be paid for that crime But sentencing someone to indefinite imprisonment is wrong Sometimes when justice has been served it’s rather an example of how unjust justice can be A life taken away without the possibility of parole A life taken away without sound legal justification A sentence of life behind bars due to the negligence of a public defender and the blatant misconduct of our legal system In this case the sentence does not fit the crime This is not an attempt to paint a picture of a saint Because Lamar Brown nor anyone else in that matter is a saint We all are sinners and we all fall short at times But this here is a case of right versus wrong And again the sentence does not fit the crime and his extreme sentence is totally unwarranted A charge of drug possession and trafficking and a history of minor offenses And Lamar “LA” Brown becomes federal prisoner 11307-067 for the rest of his life A life sentence may be necessary and justifiable for certain offences and circumstances, but for this non-violent repeat offender I don’t see how this sentence is justified How can a man’s life get taken away when the legal process that determines innocence or guilt becomes more corrupt than the actual crime that was possibly committed? How can some trumped up allegations and charges by a shady undercover officer allow an unlawful search warrant to be used to take a life? How can the refusal to give up some names in a deal for leniency give a man a lifetime behind bars? And this is justice? I don’t think so Sadly this so-called justice created a case for an unfair trial in favor of a conviction for life When instead justice should have been the strength for a case for reasonable doubt due to a lack of creditable evidence When there should have been a conviction of a sentence that resembled nothing like a sentence of life in prison with no chance of parole How could this happen? A legal process so alarmingly unfair in this case that it was impossible for justice to truly be served We should be deeply distressed and disturbed that a man could be put into the category of the worst of the worst And his offences alone does not justify using the ultimate sanction in the penal arsenal Is this a system of rehabilitation or just form of genocide? Because two wrongs don’t make a right And Lamar “LA” Brown remains in prison for the rest of his life There is no such thing as rehabilitation when there is no second chance Good behavior and character improvement are meaningless As we examine the serious flaws in this case At a minimum we demand at least a fair sentence and to vacate the sentence of life imprisonment Will justice prevail? Only if there is awareness brought to this case This is a call out to as many people as possible to commit their efforts to bringing more light to the injustice and the problems of this case May committed efforts provide an avenue to correct the wrongs of this case and help Lamar “LA” Brown receive clemency or at the least a fair sentence for the crimes he committed Because how can we curtail the freedom and liberty of our brother for the rest of his life for a crime that doesn’t rise to the level of life? May dedicated efforts be a symbol of perseverance and a commitment to doing what it takes to make this right! And we pray that one day soon we will be blessed with that big smile and some of that “LA” sunshine But rest assured my brother that until that day the fight for your freedom will continue And justice will prevail
