Demand McDonalds to make McVegan burger official

Hello! My name is Violet Oliva and I'm 16 years old. I want to start off by expressing my appreciation of fast food and ask you to listen to what I have to say. I've grown up with McDonalds, my favorite items being off the breakfast menu. Being vegetarian for most of my life, my staples were sandwiches (hold the meat!), pancakes and egg breakfast sandwiches. As I began to do more research about the animal agriculture industry, I discovered the terrible treatment of the animals, as well as the frightening processes they're put through for their bi-products. In todays world, people are beginning to make the connection between meat and unethical practices, and as more people continue to learn about these occurrences, the demand for animal-friendly products is growing. Although awareness has been brought to the light in the past few years, ethics is not a main concern for the average person; which leads me to my second point, personal health. Red and processed meats are class 1 carcinogens, meaning they fall in the same category as smoking cigarettes. The reason for this is their high levels of unhealthy fats. One of the leading causes of heart attacks is atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a build up of plaque in the arteries. Due to the endless cycle of these fats being consumed on a daily basis, mainly from processed meats, the fats build up at abnormally quicker rates than normal. Once a large enough buildup occurs, blockage of the arteries can cause stopped blood flow, which deprives oxyhemogloben from reaching the heart. Not only this, but if one of these blockages begins to travel through the bloodstream, they can stop blood flow in places such as the brain, arms, or legs, resulting in loss of limbs, or worse; death. Right now, I apologize to whoever is reading this for dropping so much information on you at once, but I am doing this solely to show you that I care about the wellbeing of yourselves and the animals. The animal agriculture industry is also a large contributor to global warming. To quote www.ecowatch.com, " CAFOs (Confined Animal Feeding Operations) contribute directly to global warming by releasing vast amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere—more than the entire global transportation industry. The air at some factory farm test sites in the U.S. is dirtier than in America’s most polluted cities, according to the Environmental Integrity Project. According to a 2006 report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), animal agriculture is responsible for 18 percent of all human-induced greenhouse gas emissions, including 37 percent of methane emissions and 65 percent of nitrous oxide emissions. The methane releases from billions of imprisoned animals on factory farms are 70 times more damaging per ton to the earth’s atmosphere than CO2". Besides this, 37% of our land mass is dedicated to growing feed for these animals. This food could be given to children in less fortunate countries, and the land could be put to different use. Cutting down these trees releases even more gases into the environment, because forests are carbon storage "tanks",, meaning they hold C02 as well as transfer it into (breathable and nontoxic) oxygen. These facts have been around for quite a while, and although they are there, no big food chains seem to be making a significant difference. I understand that although veganism is on the rise, the amount of people who have begun to adapt to a vegan lifestyle is a quite small percentage in relation to the rest of Canadas population (about 2% of Canadians are vegan). I've recently gone vegan, and since then, I haven't been able to have as much off their menu as before. Considering Mc.Donalds is such a large franchise, I was fairly surprised to discover the lack of accommodation to those who follow a vegan diet. A few weeks ago, I read about how they have recently introduced a McVegan proto-type in Finland. The point of this petiton is to ask if you'd help me introduce the McVegan Burger to Ontario (specifically Vaughan; right above Toronto). I'm willing to do anything in my power to help you make this happen, such as support the franchise or help raise awareness for the introduction of the McVegan burger. Although this is my main intent from creating this petition, I also wanted to discuss the benefits of introducing the McVegan as an official part of the menu. I am one person, I have my voice, and it is not a big one. I am trying to do everything possible to raise awareness, but it's challenging. Together, we have power. Together, we have an enormous voice, we have an impact, we have power. All I ask of you is to use it. By taking a step forward and helping McDonalds introduce the McVegan, we are taking a step into the future. A brighter, cleaner, happier future. To involve yourself in this future now is only benefitting you. I am not asking for you to turn your face to the meat aspect of the company, I completely understand that this is what has got the franchise to where it is now. But to get you to where it could be, to support those of us fighting for the animals, changes need to be made. In a future where more eyes have been opened, help make McDonalds the company who has already begun to change the world. Please listen to what I have to say, and support it if you wish. Kindest regards, Violet Oliva.
