Help Me Convince My Middle School to Add Healthy Vegetarian Lunch Options

At my school, healthy options for vegetarians are rare. I don't buy my lunch, but my friends that don't eat meat and DO buy the cafeteria food come back with barely anything to eat at all. Not even the salads are meat-free. It's closed-minded and disrespectful.

Please sign my petition to ask Carmel Middle School to create more vegetarian-friendly lunch options! How would you feel if your child was eating junk everyday because they don't have access to the food they can actually eat? I'm not saying we should cut meat entirely - that wouldn't be fair, either. I'm only saying there should be more options for every child that attends school. Just because we're kids doesn't mean we should eat whatever someone puts on our plates - we have minds of our own, and we should be able to make the decision for ourselves.

I want to start small. I'll start by making the change at the school I currently attend, Carmel Middle. But in the two and a half years that I have been a vegetarian, neither my elementary school nor middle school have shown much progress in the lunch food category, and I want to help my fellow non-meat eaters. Maybe one day I can fix this problem for all CMS schools, but for now this should be a good start. Besides, it's not that much to ask for.

In my opinion, and hopefully yours too, not including healthy vegetarian options in a public school's lunch menu is a violation of human rights. It shows we don't have a choice in what we do or do not consume on a daily basis. I think every aspect of school should be an enjoyable experience if we are required by law to attend it, and starving all day because we weren't offered the food we need isn't what I would call enjoyable.

This shouldn't be a big deal. Alter a few things on the menu, send kids home happier and more refreshed than usual, make going to school a more look-forward-to experience. It's a win-win situation. I hope all my fellow activists will help me out here - it's definitely an issue that needs more attention.
