Help Petition the Jurassic Park Franchise to Fund Paleontology

The Jurassic Park franchise has grossed over 2 billion dollars since 1993. During the trajectory of this franchise, scientific collaboration has devolved from substantial to minimal. Never the less, this franchise continues to draw upon, and is indebted to, advances in dinosaur paleontology most succinctly known as the "dinosaur renaissance" of the latter part of the 20th century - the finer points of which are still actively debated. In summary the narrative of the Jurassic Park franchise would not be possible without the underfunded, and often unpaid work, of those in the field of paleontology. While other movie franchise have financially benefited the baseline narrative they are drawn from, for example, the numerous Marvel comic based movie franchises, financial recompense to the field of paleontology from the Jurassic Park franchise has at best been nominal and is currently nil.

Paleontology - especially dinosaurs - serves as a gateway, for both children and adults, to scientific literacy and larger questions of humanities place in both deep time and space. It is intellectual fodder for the mind and expands our understanding of the past as well as the future. Despite the public's interest in paleontology, it is notoriously underfunded by the public and much of the work done at little or no pay.

Financial support by said parties to the field of paleontology would do much to further the science of paleontology and redress the debt owed by the Jurassic Park franchise/Universal & Legendary Pictures to the field that is demonstrably responsible for its very existence.
