OPPOSE THE REZONE FOR THE PROPOSED VENICE REGIONAL BAYFRONT HEALTH HOSPITAL (VRBH) IN VENICE FL

Petition of Citizens Against Rezoning of East (C.A.R.E.) Venice Avenue for Venice Regional Bayfront Health Hospital

We, the undersigned, oppose the application of Venice HMA, LLC to amend Sarasota County Comprehensive Plan (Large Scale Plan Amendment of 50+ acres) FLU Map from Moderate Density Residential (MODR) to Office/Multifamily (OFF/MF); rezone the (5) parcels of land located at 2705 E. Venice Avenue from  Residential Single Family (RSF)-3  to Office Professional Institutional-Planned Development (OPI/PD); and Special Exception to the Zoning Regulations to exceed Maximum Allowable Height of buildings from 35 feet to 85 feet for the new Venice Regional Hospital, Medical Offices, and Heliport Project.

Although we strongly support providing quality medical services to the residents of South Sarasota County and acknowledge Venice Regional Bayfront Health's need to build a new hospital facility better suited to providing quality medical services for our Community, we are Strongly Opposed to the Location Site chosen by VRBH for the new hospital.  Approving the requested amendment to Sarasota County Comprehensive Plan FLU Map will set a land use trend of intensification on the future development of vacant land parcels around our homes.  The present capacity of the area's infrastructures and roadways of East Venice Avenue and the Jacaranda Blvd. Roundabout are inadequate to handle the increased traffic generated by a hospital.   Therefore, safety will be negatively impacted for all those accessing an area of roadways ill-prepared to accommodate the significant increase of traffic flow and emergency vehicles connecting to the hospital.

NEXT MEETING SCHEDULED FOR Aug 28 (County Commissioners)
Awesome comments on the petition. E-mail them to the County Commissioners..BOMBARD THEM WITH E-MAILS!
The Planning Commission approved / passed it onto the Commissioners. The Planning Board did mention that one of the major concerns..Traffic...and improving Venice Ave from 2 to 4 lanes was an issue.
Nothing in the 5+ yr plan indicates Venice Ave widening ..Answer from Transportation...THAT IS UP TO THE COMMISSIONERS !! .
