PROTECT BRIDGEBURN DRIVE FROM SCOTTISH WATER CONSTRUCTION SITE

WARNING BRIDGEBURN DRIVE/LANGDALE/EARLS COURT/MAHON RESIDENTS PLEASE SHARE:

I spoke to a surveyor from Scottish Water this morning and was informed that they are soon to begin a FIVE YEAR* programme of work, relaying the pipeline in the glen. They are aiming to enter the glen through the car park between 61 and 63 Bridgeburn Drive and building a road behind the houses from there, through the field, all the way up to the flats around 143 Bridgeburn. This will have huge implications for our already over-crowded street, with construction vehicles travelling up and down it on a daily basis, trailing mud behind them for the five year period. This will affect residents from the bottom of Langdale Road, Earls Court and Mahon too with the construction vehicles coming in and out at the traffic lights every day. Our roads have enough pot holes without this sort of added pressure. The car park which many of us use will be lost, as well as parking on either side of the entrance to it, increasing pressure on the street. The disturbance will be massive for residents from 61 to 143 in particular with the vehicles transporting heavy machinery, behind our very back gardens! The value of the homes in this part of the street will plummet with this type of work going on over our back fences. The field is also home to countless species of wildlife, including rabbits, squirrels, foxes and the beautiful herd of deer who make their almost daily visits.

There are numerous other options that are available, including entering on the railway line at Avenue head Road, entering at Bridgend, or even entering at the graveyard side of the main road but the fact is….they think the residents at Bridgeburn are less likely to fight it because we don‘t value our homes as much or the wildlife or the safety of our children playing in the streets. Well I intend to fight it all the way and I hope my wonderful neighbours and I can rely on your support. Contact Scottish Water, contact your local councillor, support our petition. Bridgeburn Drive deserves better and so do its families.

*Scottish Water have contacted me to say that it will be more like 9 months. If you wish to delete your signature based on that element changing, please feel free.  I personally, do not feel that it changes the issue at hand.

Update #17 years ago
Scottish water have emailed me to say that it will be around a 9 month project and not 5 years, as my neighbours and I were originally told. If this changes your opinion, please feel free to remove your signature. They will be holding a community open evening from 4pm-7.30pm in the community centre on a date TBC within the next fortnight. I will keep you posted. Thank you so much for your support. Kind thoughts, Yvonne x
