Bring Spanish Language Instruction to Santa Cruz Elementary Schools

Studies have shown that getting an early start on learning a second language not only improves your chances at bilingual fluency it has many other cognitive and social benefits as well.
According to the peer reviewed Early Childhood Education Journal, research has shown that foreign language study in the early elementary years:
improves cognitive abilities,
positively influences achievement in other disciplines,
and results in higher achievement test scores in reading and math.

Incorporating a FLES (Foreign Language in Elementary Schools) program at Westlake would enhance the education of our students and could easily be added into the curriculum. The California Association for Bilingual Education offers many resources and pathways for schools to accomplish this goal.
Please allow our children to have the same educational opportunities for early childhood language instruction that many other California public school children are already afforded.
