RE-OPEN the Post Office at Evansdale, Iowa 50707 -- NOW!

  • by: Craig Chilton
  • recipient: The United States Postal Service (USPS)

Before the Evansdale Post Office was closed on October 22, 2011, Evansdale Mayor Chad Deutsch and resident Craig Chilton both beat the deadline to file appeals with the U.S. Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) in Washington, D.C, in which both cited proof that the closing was unjustified because that branch had been consistently profitable.

In January, the PRC agreed, and Evansdale WON the appeal.  The PRC remanded the case back to the U.S. Postal Service for reconsideration and subsequent corrective action.  The PRC does not have the power to mandate the reopening of the Evansdale Post Office -- but that IS the right thing for the USPS to do, and it should have been done months ago!

It took only two days to empty out the building.  All of the equipment that it contained, including the P.O. boxes, still is being stored in Waterloo, and can be replaced just as quickly.
If you live in Evansdale, or within three miles of the building that had housed the Post Office in downtown Evansdale, please sign this petition to implore the USPS to DO the right thing, and re-open this Post Office -- immediately. The USPS NEEDS to see that we mean business, and that this action is vitally important to us!  Please sign now, and urge all of your neighbors to do so as well.  E-mail the URL of this petition to them.  Let's get Old Glory flying again in front of the Evansdale Post Office, and have this vital service restored to us!
