Save Young Zimbabwe Elephants From Kidnapping for Chinese Zoos

  • by: Piper Hoffman

Zimbabwe's government is stealing young elephants from their families and sending them on grueling 36 hour journeys that end in barren, frigid cells in Chinese zoos.
African elephants are endangered, but the international body that regulates trade in endangered species issued permits for this cruel and sad project.
Please sign this petition to save juvenile elephants from being ripped from their families and homes and sentenced to lives of misery.

Dear CITES Secretariat,

Please revoke the permits allowing Zimbabwe to capture young wild elephants and sell them to Chinese zoos. The zoos that are buying these juveniles are entirely inadequate, keeping the animals in barren, frigid cells. One elephant has already died.

Taking intelligent, social juveniles away from their families is cruel and cannot be reversed. Even when Zimbabwe decided to return five captured youth to the wild, it could not find their herds. They have lost their mothers and families forever.

This is no way to treat endangered animals. This is why we ask you to revoke the permits that make this tragedy possible.
