Urge Delaware To Enact Common-Sense Reforms To Protect People and Pets

Laws that broadly discriminate against dog breeds - without considering the individual's behavior - fail to enhance public safety, are extremely expensive to enforce, and infringe on responsible dog owners’ property rights.

Pit bulls, Rottweilers, and Mastiffs are the most common targets of Breed Specific Legislation (BSL). However, empirical research has repeatedly demonstrated that broad-based restrictions on dog breeds simply don't work - and often cause unnecessary harm to people and animals.

Fortunately, numerous communities are now enacting common-sense reforms that bring consistency to our dangerous-dog laws and make our communities safer for both people and pets. Owners and pets should be judged by their behavior - not pernicious stereotypes.

This common-sense approach to dangerous-dog and reckless-owner laws has been endorsed by organizations such as the American Bar Association, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the American Kennel Club and many others.

Delaware is now considering HB 427, which would enact similar common-sense reforms. The bill will bring much-needed consistency to our dangerous-dog laws and make our communities safer for everyone.

Urge Delaware to enact HB 427 to protect both people and pets today!
