National Indigenous History and Awareness Month

It's not a new concept to want to honor the history of where you live but what is often forgotten is the blood from beneath our feet of those Indigenous people who lost their lives due to colonoization and the offsprings. Indigenous peoples in the Americas numbered more than 20,000,000 throughout the US and Canada. If you include present day Mexico then there's an additional 25,000,000 throughout history.

In the United States we have a funny way of showing respect to something or someone. We ignore it. The Indigenous people have countless contributions to the country and land that was stolen from them and continue to embrace and love their unwanted neighbors. The spirit of the Indigenous people live on today through their unmarked graves and stolen land. There's nothing I can do personally to write this wrong but we can start the healing process by embracing and learning about the native peoples. With more than 400 tribes the land is full of culture that can be shared. I'd like to petition National Indigenous History and Awareness Month to honor past and present native peoples in the Americas and throughout the world.
