we've got signatures, help us get to 1,000 by January 5, 2014
Rockin' N Ranch has been inside of the Elaine Gordon Enchanted Forest Park for over 30 years and has been under the same ownership throughout the entire time. The ranch is a place where families can come and enjoy a little bit of the country without having to leave the city. It is the only place within the city that families can come and spend time with horses and ponies and where children can make memories that they will carry with them into the future. It is also a place where teens can come to volunteer, learn and build character and responsibility.
The ranch is in extreme need of sand for the riding arena/turnout area. The City has not replaced the sand in many years and as a result the level of the arena is very low and is a hazard to the horses and ponies. We are asking the city to bring in enough sand to fill the arena to the proper level. One way to prolong the life of the sand in the arena would be to build a boxed border around the arena with a two foot height so that the winds, rain and horses cannot blow the sand out of the arena. These are circumstances that are beyond out control but with a little remodification by the City, the sand could be contained for a longer period of time.
We would also like to have minor repairs done to the electrical outlets and circuits that have become hazardous to the horses, the volunteers at the ranch and the city's population in whole that come to visit. There are shorts in the wires that are causing the horses as well as anyone else who touches the switches or uses the outlets to get shocked.
This is a City park and City property. The Ranch reflects our Parks and Recreation as well as the City and should be kept up properly.
We the people, of the City of North Miami and neighboring cities sign this petition requesting minor repairs to the barn and enough sand to properly fill the riding arena/turnout area so that we can continue to enjoy this serene and family oriented getaway; where our children can experience the country, the horses and ponies and where we can continue building memories. We also sign this petition for the safety of the animals as well as the people that come upon the property.
