Stop Shackling Now

Shackling pregnant and birthing women is a violation of domestic constitutional law and international human rights.

Hello my name is Jane Ricci, I am a graduate student in a Masters of Social Work (MSW) Program at Springfield College. I am working on a social policy project concerning the practice of shackling Incarcerated women during childbirth. As I continue looking at this problem nationally, I am finding that many states are still practicing this inhumane treatment, despite laws in place to prevent it. Laws that are not being enforced. With this petition, my colleagues and I would like to bring awareness of this issue to the general public as well as to Legislators in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts who are responsible for fully implementing the law and ending the shackling of women during childbirth in our state prison system. Thank You, for your support.
