This action is important because Troy Travis was a pillar in the community and his lost will be felt for many years to come. Figures such as Troy Travis do not appear in society as easily as they go and in a school and community that is overshadowed by the negativity of a few, it is important to not only tell the Troy Travis' of the world that we see you, we hear you, and we respect and cherish you but we must also put those words in praxis and show that we mean every word.
So by supporting and signing this petition we make clear that Troy Travis' dedication to public service, students, our community, and sports are not only recognized but cherished and respected as well.
Troy Travis was a man of men and the example so many young men and women lack. Words cannot be configured in any possible way to explain the hurt, the pain, or the lost we all feel to know that he is no longer here with us.
So many of us both young and old were impacted by his compassion and zest for life and so many of us will never get to feel the warmth of his smile or the love wrapped in his words. Troy Travis had kids of his own but he was a father and family to many many more. His presence, though it may not be with us physically, his spirit and examples lives on within the hearts and mines of those he touched.
It is of the upmost importance that you sign this petition to rename the Benson High School football field in his honor because he not only contributed to the school as an athlete but also came back to Benson High School and contributed in the halls for over a decade as an employee and coach. His contributions have been felt not only within the walls of Benson High School but also in the Omaha and North Omaha communities respectively.
Figures like Troy Travis live on in memory but it is important and our obligation to honor men and women like Troy Travis in the same way they served us while here on this earth. Nothing is more fitting or deserving then honoring Troy Travis in this way.
