Let the Republican Party Participate at the Blackbear festival!

The Murray County Republican Party has participated in the BlackBear Festival (a local community oriented event) and we have enjoyed it tremendously. We've always had a great time getting to know our community and sharing our views. We've never had a problem or any complaint or threat.

This year it has been decided that political parties are barred from the festival by the Mayor Tyson Haynes. This is not because of any specific threat or complaint as there have been none. It was because, in the words of the mayor, "all this stuff going on". It was stated that they were concerned about trouble during the festival. We as a community organization should not be barred from this festival. We should not have our first amendment rights taken just because we have some vague unsubstantiated fear. We should have the same opportunity as any community organization to access to the festival.

The mayor was very vague and difficult to follow in his explanation of the reason for this. At times he would say that it was not his decision. At others he would say it was in fact his decision. There was no further description of the threat then some indefinite phrase like, "Everything that's going on". At one point he told us that the decision was made and we could like it or lump it!

If we do not stand up for this injustice what will The Chatsworth Chamber of Commerce, and the Mayor take away next? Will religions be barred? Will differing cultures be barred? Please stand with us in demanding every organization be treated equally and fairly!
