On July 20, 2013, Sp. Brent Grommet returned from Afghanistan with his military working dog, a German shepherd named Matty, according to an article by Maureen Callahan in the NY Post. Matty and Brent went through training and deployment together and were injured together when a roadside IED detonated. Brent slept on top of Matty's crate on the flight back to New Jersey. He had filled out all the paperwork to adopt Matty and had the SOLE right to adopt Matty under Bobby's Law. All of the paperwork was filled out, and he was assured Matty would go home with him. However, Matty was given to someone else and K2Solutions, a private firm that contracted with the Army took her for a physical exam and Brent hasn't seen him since. Brent had spinal surgery and Matty had knee surgery, and neither was there for the other! There are suspicions someone in the military kept Matty. Brent is suffering, emotionally and physically, and, as all dog lovers know, Matty is too. German Shepherds devote their soul to their person. Matty and Brent need to be reunited. Send this petition to everyone you know. Two souls are tormented and whoever has Matty, should please return him to Brent for both of their sakes. Anything less is selfish and inhumane. Our Veterans need our support. Spread this petition far and wide. Let's show this government how we feel about our vets - two and four-footed!
