Save Our Armory

Help!

The Clarksville, AR historic National Guard Armory is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a local landmark.

The Clarksville City Council has met on the record to discuss tearing the armory down.

Grant funds, public and private donations, and volunteer labor are available for needed repairs.

The Armory, also known as the Sonny Alston Youth Center was built using restrained art deco architecture which was rare for military buildings.

This building is important to the citizens of Clarksville, AR and to former residents who still love the building and the memories it represents.

Destroying, altering or otherwise changing this building will have a negative impact on the residents of the established neighborhood of historic homes in which it is situated, and would impact current real estate values.

The building is still economically viable, and is culturally, architecturally, historically and economically unique     to the people of Clarksville, AR.

The fate of this building rests with the Mayor and Clarksville City Council.  You can contact them directly at their website www.clarksvillear.gov.

Let your voice be heard today, before it is too late!

City of Clarksville,

These electronic signatures show the level of interest in preserving the Sonny Alston Youth Center a/k/a Clarksville Historic Armory.

This interest is not just limited to the citizens of Clarksville.  The interest goes far beyond our city limits.

Please don't ignore their voices.

We are all stakeholders in the fate of this landmark. Our federal tax dollars paid for and maintained it until ownership was given to The City of Clarksville. The City Council meets on Monday night at 6:00 in City Hall to decide the fate of OUR ARMORY. Yesterday we launched an information site at www.saveourarmory.org. Visit our site and see why this issue is so important. Then share with your friends, so they can help, too!
