My 15yr old daughter was in a rollover car accident and she is now a quadraplegic. Safety should be the main factor in which an automobile is designed, not shape of the body or the various ammenities that entice the consumer into purchasing an unsafe car. |

I want to drive a safe, fuel efficient auto. Instead I drive a full size truck because of the huge SUVs and other trucks around me. To date I have been T boned once by a red light runner in a big vehicle. The big truck saved me from injury. I repaired the truck and will drive it until the laws are changed! |

I have seen first-hand the devastation caused by rollover crashes. This doesn't have to be. Rollover crashes involve the least violent forces, distributed over a longer time frame than other crash modes. The problem is severely understrengthed roofs, which buckle and collapse when they strike the ground, particularly in SUVs and pickup trucks since these vehicles weigh so much. Court cases have shown that auto makers have known for decades that their roofs are substandard, but continue to deny this in order to save money. The government must step in and mandate much stronger standards for roof strength. |

I have lived with debilitating horrible pain and have great sympathy for the Parkers. This is why I wouldn't buy an American SUV. $ has replaced common sense and safety in the hearts and minds of auto manufacturers. I will pray for Patrick Parker. |

I walked away uninjured from a high-speed rollover accident thanks to a well-designed roof structure. Every driver should be as lucky as I was. |

I read a moving story about Dena Parker and her husband Patrick, who is a quadriplegic now due to lax vehicle roofs.
I think it's time for a change....The Big Three has had there time for too long now. Things have got to change.
There are more things to life than the bottom line!!!
PLEASE READ THE STORY!

On 5/18/04 my 16 yr old son, Raleigh Howell Allen, IV, died from a one vehicle rollover. He was driving a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, the roof was crushed completely. He was wearing a seatbelt, his injuries was trauma to head and neck no other injuries. If the roof had of been built stronger my son would have survived. |
.>Auto Manufacturers Sacrificing Safety for Profit at the Expense of Lives
We the undersigned, believe that it is time for our government to step in and protect consumers from large corporations namely the auto manufacturers, from producing, marketing and selling unsafe vehicles to unaware consumers, in effect disregarding human lives for the sake of profit. The auto industry has consistently opposed attempts for consumer protection, including a credible rollover crash test. The NHTSA's 5 star rating, which tells how likely a vehicle is to roll, is simply not the answer. The answer is to build the vehicle right, with adequate structure. With today's strong metal alloys, there is no excuse not to do so. Experts agree, the costs involved would be minimal. The government makes it mandatory for citizens to wear seatbelts, which we agree will save lives if a vehicle is designed to not come down on the heads of the driver and/or passenger(s). Regarding seatbelts, many are inadequately designed and allow victims of vehicle accidents to fly out of their seats, once again causing unnecessary deaths and serious injuries. Auto manufacturers have long been aware of these safety deficiencies, but have successfully fought against government standards and taken no voluntary action to stop the unnecessary deaths and injuries. We the undersigned believe if an auto manufacturer knows their product has a safety/design defect, they should be required to notify the consumer and government immediately. We believe that if an auto manufacturer willfully chooses to hide a safety or design defect and as a result someone is injured or killed, appropriate criminal penalties should apply.
