Keep Citizens Safe from Nuclear Waste!

Storing Nuclear Waste in Yucca Mountain isn't just about saving Yucca Mountain. It's about protecting residents in 43 of the United States from nuclear disasters.

In order to store nuclear waste in Yucca Mountain, truck and train shipments of nuclear waste - more than 3,000 each year for 24 years - will be traveling through your city, in front of your children's schools and next to your home. 43 states. 734 counties. Home to half the population of the United States. All at risk of a catastrophic nuclear disaster.

Stop this proposition before it becomes a reality, in your backyard. .....

7,783  10:41 am PDT, Jun 19 Perry Lewis We have created a Nuclear Holocaust that does not go away! Living in SC our state, and government officials are also resisting nuclear materials being stored in our Savannah River Site. I am hoping that better way can soon be figured out because the leakage may already be occuring. Who knows!
7,782  10:37 am PDT, Jun 19 Anonymous Nuclear waste period is terrible, if you want to dump it then tuff luck you should never have created it in the first place you most likly will have to keep it in some whare house!
7,781  10:15 am PDT, Jun 19 Anonymous I think it is appalling

7,779  9:45 am PDT, Jun 19 Angela Coccoluto Dont' agree with it.
7,778  9:37 am PDT, Jun 19 Amye King Continued abuse of the mountains is leading to limited resources for the present and future generations. It is time to clean-up our mess.
7,777  9:31 am PDT, Jun 19 sandra ross Would give new meaning to the mountains name.

7,774  8:46 am PDT, Jun 19 Kenneth Bozek
7,773  8:38 am PDT, Jun 19 Heather MR Clark-Evans I feel that there is probably a better way of handling radioactive waste, if only the government would open their minds and moneybags just a little.
7,772  8:37 am PDT, Jun 19 Tina Clarke The solution that beest protects the environment and human health for the long term is "above ground retrievable storage"--capsules that can be carefully monitored and strengthened.
7,771  8:28 am PDT, Jun 19 Kris Wells
7,770  8:13 am PDT, Jun 19 Jeff Kehler You must be stupid to think you can just burry your problems, but if you must burry it I would like to sugest you burry it on the property of those who think this is a good idea. Let them reap the profits AND THE RISK.
7,769  8:12 am PDT, Jun 19 Baove Moi Truong It's bad, i hate Nuclear waste,
7,768  8:03 am PDT, Jun 19 Kellee Kell
7,767  7:51 am PDT, Jun 19 Lori Cox I feel that waste in Yucca Mountain is, of course, a terrible thing. What I think is more terrilbe though, is the fact that we have nuclear waste and it has to go SOMEWHERE. This is not an issue that can be pushed around, indefinately. Unfortunately, it's a LULU (locally unwanted land use) and it will have to go in someone's backyard. If we say that WE DON'T WANT IT, we need to balance that refusal by a committment to finding more sustainable practices to prevent needs such as this in the future, and we need to find more effective means of disposal so that there is the least amount of impact on human society and our precious environment.
7,766  7:39 am PDT, Jun 19 Anonymous
7,765  7:37 am PDT, Jun 19 Vlasta Toth I am from Croatia, but I simpathise with others becuse we have the saim problem with nuclear waist.
7,764  7:37 am PDT, Jun 19 Anonymous
7,763  7:30 am PDT, Jun 19 Carrie Sue Ayvar
7,762  7:15 am PDT, Jun 19 Rikke Jensen I think the fact that it is even being considered is repulsive.
7,761  7:10 am PDT, Jun 19 Anonymous I feel that the danger posed to the public far outweighs the need to risk overland/water transportation of extremely toxic nuclear waste. Also the terrorist threat implies a highjacking of this material is extremely high as well, especialy since the routes are accessible through the internet. The amount of waste is not significantly reduced in any sector. I submit that another alternative MUST be implemented.

.>No Nuclear Waste at Yucca Mountain
To the 107th Congress of the United States of America:

The proposed nuclear waste dump at Yucca Mountain, Nevada,
poses unacceptable threats to human health, public safety
and the environment.

Important scientific, ethical, and policy questions about
the repository proposal remain unresolved, as identified in
part by independent federal review agencies. The risks of
transporting highly radioactive waste through 44 states to a
questionable site cannot be justified. A crash or attack involving
just one of these shipments could be catastrophic.

We, the undersigned citizens, petition you to oppose the dangerous
Yucca Mountain Project.
