Stop the Seal Hunt

This year the Canadian government promised a more humane hunt. They said "Canada's seal hunt is humane, sustainable and responsible." They lied.
IFAW Hunt Observers were on the ground and in the air documenting the hunt since it opened on the 28th of March. Only days into the hunt they captured on camera instances where animals were shot and clearly left to suffer. They witnessed live seals hooked and dragged across the ice. And in one of the more disturbing moments they watched as a sealer wrote an expletive on the ice while a recently clubbed seal behind him started to move...obviously still alive.
Is this the Canadian government's idea of a more humane hunt? Please urge the Canadian Prime Minister and Canadian Ambassador to end the cruelty of the seal hunt. Take action today!

The seal hunt is a disgusting and barbaric event that I feel completely opposed to and feel that if this is to continue to happen it should at least be humane for the poor defenceless creatures that are victims to this sick hunt. Personally I feel very strongly that this type of hunt should be stopped altogether. I am shocked at the way the Canadian Goverment has dealt and continues to deal with this issue and it has certainly stopped myself, my family and many friends from ever visiting your country as a tourist, now and in the near future!

Baby seals weren't made to live a few weeks, only to die a brutal death. Seals did not mate just to see their offspring die, while they couldn't do anything about it. Animals were put on this Earth to live in peace, with us. They should be left alone, the way they were meant to be.

Harp seals are facing a new threat -- global warming -- which is resulting in dramatically reduced ice coverage in the Gulf of St Lawrence and off Newfoundland. And yet you have ignored the one tangible action your government could take to combat the effects of global warming -- dramatically reducing the seal hunt quota. The seal hunt is absolutely barbaric. I couldn't read more than a paragraph of what happens during a seal hunt, and how the pups are skinned while still alive. I feel sick to my stomach and have a deep ache in my heart. I can't understand how a human could inflict such torture on our creatures of this earth. It's despicable and anyone who would allow such a thing to carry on is subhuman.

These acts are barbaric, brutal and beyond the grasp of any kind of acceptable justification. What it really shows is, that no matter how neutral, respectful you portray your country to be, your government is inhuman and heartless. A wolf in sheep's skin. I have been to your country, I have many Canadian friends, I even support Canadian Nature Conservancy even though I myself am not Canadian, but unless this is stopped, I can't but feel disgusted enough to stay away. If I were planning any kind of future, for me and my family and the generations thereafter, I'd choose to go some place with more compassion and soul; if you can without conscience condone and support such atrocities, what more to fellow human beings?
