Stop the Seal Hunt

This year the Canadian government promised a more humane hunt. They said "Canada's seal hunt is humane, sustainable and responsible." They lied.
IFAW Hunt Observers were on the ground and in the air documenting the hunt since it opened on the 28th of March. Only days into the hunt they captured on camera instances where animals were shot and clearly left to suffer. They witnessed live seals hooked and dragged across the ice. And in one of the more disturbing moments they watched as a sealer wrote an expletive on the ice while a recently clubbed seal behind him started to move...obviously still alive.
Is this the Canadian government's idea of a more humane hunt? Please urge the Canadian Prime Minister and Canadian Ambassador to end the cruelty of the seal hunt. Take action today!

And yet you have ignored the one tangible action your government could take to combat the effects of global warming -- dramatically reducing the seal hunt quota. Apart from these serious conservation concerns shared by many Canadians, the seal hunt targets baby animals, a practice that is unacceptable to the majority of Canadians. In the past two years, 98% of the seals killed have been less than three months old. More and more countries around the world are adopting legislation to ban the import of seal products. We are humans and we are still acting barbaric towards these beautiful creatures. I am ashamed to be human. I thought we were a kind and compassionate race. I was mistaken. Killing an animals is the same as someone killing another human being. A kill is a kill. A animal breathes, see's, talks, moves..and is alive..so why are we hurting them? Animals were on this planet long before humans so we should give animals respect that they deserve. RESPECT ANIMALS NOT KILL THEM!

Dear Prime Minister, I have always looked to Canada nation with progressive policies, especially in the area of social justice;therefore it beggars the imagination as to how such a progressive nation can financially support such a barbarity as the seal hunt. Perhaps at one time, there was a large and profitable fur trade, but I would think any educated person in the western world would know that most people no longer wear real fur.Just how much longer are you going to encourage a barbaric practice that is non-profitable as well? Please keep your word, and stop the seal hunt.Take the money of the good tax paying citizens of Canada and develop some new industry for the people of Newfoundland- perhaps something in the alternate energy production area would be appropriate.

i'm pretty sure i've signed this petition before [or one of the same subject]...but i still feel the same way. i'm a huge animal lover. i'm a vegetarian[also classified as a vegan], and i'm against so much...including seal slaughter. you know how some kids LOVE dinosaurs?? well i know that it's not our fault that they are extinct, but it is humans fault that mammoths are extinct....and dodo birds are extinct too!! more and more animals are dying off every day...and it's humans faults. animals were here first...and it's not fair that people invaded. seals are just trying to live life too...so stop making it so hard....humans really just need to leave animals alone...they need to stop torturing and killing the silenced and helpless
