Protect Humpbacks from Whaling

Target: Ryozo Kato, Ambassador of Japan
Sponsored by: International Fund for Animal Welfare
The Japanese Government is sending its whaling fleet into the protected waters of the Southern Ocean Sanctuary around Antarctica. And this year, Japan is threatening to add endangered humpback and fin whales to its target list!

The Japanese government attempts to defend its whaling program by calling it "scientific" whaling.  In reality, this deadly program is nothing more than unlawful commercial whaling in disguise. We don't need to kill whales to study them in the 21st century.

More than 30,000 whales have been killed since a global ban on commercial whaling came into effect in 1986. Japan must not expand its whaling program!

Tell Japanese Ambassador Ryozo Kato to immediately stop the senseless annual killing of whales, including the endangered Humpback.
deadline: 11-5-2008
goal: 75,000

Last week, Japan agreed to temporarily end targeting humpback whales in this year's hunt.

Thanks to concerned citizens like you, the humpbacks are safe until they return to Japanese waters after this year's migraion. This is a step in the right direction, but there is still work to be done.

Please urge Japan to stand firm on its commitment to exclude humpback whales, and to end the hunt of all whale species!

Dear Mr. Ambassador,

Japan kills more than 1,400 whales every year despite a global ban on commercial whaling.

Your government attempts to defend its whaling program by calling it "scientific" whaling. In reality, this deadly "scientific" whaling program is nothing more than unlawful commercial whaling in disguise. We don't need to kill whales to study them in the 21st century.

[Your comment here]

I respectfully urge you to persuade your government to withdraw its announced plans to kill 50 humpback whales and to end its unlawful whaling program.

Sincerely,

There were already discussions with no result. Japan still is ignorant. What for do they need to kill whales. They say for science purpose. i guess nobody believes this anymore but why can't they be stopped? I really would like to know the reasons.

Your cultures prize taking the organs and other beautiful pieces of the once living idol; but when are you going to recognize that power over 'others' will only send you over a cliff because you do not recognize you have no power over your self? Let them be. Otherwise, their ancestors will devour you.

Please stop this wanton slaughter of an endangered species. We humans are meant to be caretakers/stewards of all living creatures on this beautiful planet. The Japanese people do not need to kill these magnificant creatures for food.
