Protect Humpbacks from Whaling

Target: Ryozo Kato, Ambassador of Japan
Sponsored by: International Fund for Animal Welfare
The Japanese Government is sending its whaling fleet into the protected waters of the Southern Ocean Sanctuary around Antarctica. And this year, Japan is threatening to add endangered humpback and fin whales to its target list!

The Japanese government attempts to defend its whaling program by calling it "scientific" whaling.  In reality, this deadly program is nothing more than unlawful commercial whaling in disguise. We don't need to kill whales to study them in the 21st century.

More than 30,000 whales have been killed since a global ban on commercial whaling came into effect in 1986. Japan must not expand its whaling program!

Tell Japanese Ambassador Ryozo Kato to immediately stop the senseless annual killing of whales, including the endangered Humpback.
deadline: Ongoing...
goal: 75,000

Last week, Japan agreed to temporarily end targeting humpback whales in this year's hunt.

Thanks to concerned citizens like you, the humpbacks are safe until they return to Japanese waters after this year's migraion. This is a step in the right direction, but there is still work to be done.

Please urge Japan to stand firm on its commitment to exclude humpback whales, and to end the hunt of all whale species!

Dear Mr. Ambassador,

Japan kills more than 1,400 whales every year despite a global ban on commercial whaling.

Your government attempts to defend its whaling program by calling it "scientific" whaling. In reality, this deadly "scientific" whaling program is nothing more than unlawful commercial whaling in disguise. We don't need to kill whales to study them in the 21st century.

[Your comment here]

I respectfully urge you to persuade your government to withdraw its announced plans to kill 50 humpback whales and to end its unlawful whaling program.

Sincerely,

It is time for humans to evolve and these attitudes are not helping. There is no need to hunt whales!!!

Leave the wales in peace, it is anachronistic act to kill wales, overfishing the seas - save what little there is left.

I respectfully ask that you cease all efforts to pointlessly murder and slaughter these bautiful, defenseless animals. The weak and powerless depend and count on the "strong and powerful" to give them a voice and protect them. I trust you will do the right thing and make the decision to stop the brutal murder of these lovely animals. Respectfully yours, Tatiana Lee

I consider Japan and its people to be intelligent and well reasoned. How then can they kill one of the most beautiful and endangered creatures on this planet. Further, how can they justify this senseless killing by claiming 'scientific' reasons. There are no benefits to this type of brutal 'science'. Shame on Japan and shame on the international community for allowing this to continue.

Stop and think if this was you and you could not speak for your self! Leave the animals alone they have just as much right as we do.

If you believe in Karmic doctrines, you will suffer greatly in your next incarnation if you fail to stop the whaling now.

Mr. Ambasador, please cease the killing of whales immediately. These creatures are endangered and the need for them diminishes daily, assuming it was really much there in the first place. It lowers the civility of your country. Thanks

These magnificent animals deserve to live and should not be hunted. Surely the Japanese can find other sources of the small amount of food and byproducts generated in this slaughter.

Im confused! Why is it that Japan is going into protected waters to kill these animals? Why are other governments not doing anything to stop the madness. I am so tired of hearing how animals are being used for "SCIENTIFIC" reasons..BS! The Humpback is endangered. How is it that we can sit back and let the government get a way with this?! I find it shocking and rediculous that governments will go to WAR over OIL!! and not do what they can to protect the species of this planet.
