Protect Humpbacks from Whaling

Target: Ryozo Kato, Ambassador of Japan
Sponsored by: International Fund for Animal Welfare
The Japanese Government is sending its whaling fleet into the protected waters of the Southern Ocean Sanctuary around Antarctica. And this year, Japan is threatening to add endangered humpback and fin whales to its target list!

The Japanese government attempts to defend its whaling program by calling it "scientific" whaling.  In reality, this deadly program is nothing more than unlawful commercial whaling in disguise. We don't need to kill whales to study them in the 21st century.

More than 30,000 whales have been killed since a global ban on commercial whaling came into effect in 1986. Japan must not expand its whaling program!

Tell Japanese Ambassador Ryozo Kato to immediately stop the senseless annual killing of whales, including the endangered Humpback.
deadline: Ongoing...
goal: 75,000

Last week, Japan agreed to temporarily end targeting humpback whales in this year's hunt.

Thanks to concerned citizens like you, the humpbacks are safe until they return to Japanese waters after this year's migraion. This is a step in the right direction, but there is still work to be done.

Please urge Japan to stand firm on its commitment to exclude humpback whales, and to end the hunt of all whale species!

Dear Mr. Ambassador,

Japan kills more than 1,400 whales every year despite a global ban on commercial whaling.

Your government attempts to defend its whaling program by calling it "scientific" whaling. In reality, this deadly "scientific" whaling program is nothing more than unlawful commercial whaling in disguise. We don't need to kill whales to study them in the 21st century.

[Your comment here]

I respectfully urge you to persuade your government to withdraw its announced plans to kill 50 humpback whales and to end its unlawful whaling program.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Please stop hunting whales and respect the 20 year whale hunting moratorium that the International Whaling Commission imposed in 1986. There is a reason for the ban, these creatures are part of a delicate ecosystem that is being destroyed by your country and others who don't adhere to international agreements.

This is a cynical attempt at bargaining by the Japanese government, and it is repulsive. You should be denied a Humpback quota AND still be denied further rights to whale ALL other types of whales. It is evident to all that this is the small edge of the wedge for you - it won't work.

Do you people only care about making money or whatever else you guys might find when you kill innocent animals???? How dare you want to kill ANY TYPE OF WHALES OR ANY ANIMALS & FOR WHAT??? Just to see there skin hanging from one hook and their bodies from another? Does that please you or something? You people are disgiusting; how would you like it if someone out of nowhere decided to kill you? The reason being for just living your OWN life?? You really need to find the meaning about life because obviously you haven't found it yet. This has to stop.

Please stop killing these innocent intelligent creatures. They are for the whole world to enjoy, and you look so selfish destroying them. When you kill these animals it makes your country look very uneducated and caveman like. It makes you look very stupid and unadvanced to the rest of the world. We all know what will happen eventually. Do you realize what your doing or would you like someone to come over and educate your country...?

At this stage of the precarious existence of so many species, isn't it time that you found methods to provide food for your population without depleting the population of the seas and wiping them out forever. Please stop hunting whales.

It is not cool to eat whale. It is not cool to kill whale. You have consistantly broken international whaling laws with your false claim of scientific research. Lies. Whale slaughter is whale slaughter and represents a total disregard for the respect of the fragile natural world.

Your country is destroying the whale species while under the disguise of scientific research. While that may of been true years ago it is not true anymore. Shame on You! How can you live with yourself?

The country of Japan should abide by the same rules as the other countries of the world. It has a responsibility as a people and a nation to protect whales and this voracious greed must stop.

Dear Ambassador of Japan, please stop the senseless killing of humpback and any whales. We need to protect all forms of life. We are destroying the world and all of its life forms. It is so sad. Please stop this now before we create so much damage it cannot be undone.
