Protect Humpbacks from Whaling

Target: Ryozo Kato, Ambassador of Japan
Sponsored by: International Fund for Animal Welfare
The Japanese Government is sending its whaling fleet into the protected waters of the Southern Ocean Sanctuary around Antarctica. And this year, Japan is threatening to add endangered humpback and fin whales to its target list!

The Japanese government attempts to defend its whaling program by calling it "scientific" whaling.  In reality, this deadly program is nothing more than unlawful commercial whaling in disguise. We don't need to kill whales to study them in the 21st century.

More than 30,000 whales have been killed since a global ban on commercial whaling came into effect in 1986. Japan must not expand its whaling program!

Tell Japanese Ambassador Ryozo Kato to immediately stop the senseless annual killing of whales, including the endangered Humpback.
deadline: 11-5-2008
goal: 75,000

Last week, Japan agreed to temporarily end targeting humpback whales in this year's hunt.

Thanks to concerned citizens like you, the humpbacks are safe until they return to Japanese waters after this year's migraion. This is a step in the right direction, but there is still work to be done.

Please urge Japan to stand firm on its commitment to exclude humpback whales, and to end the hunt of all whale species!

Dear Mr. Ambassador,

Japan kills more than 1,400 whales every year despite a global ban on commercial whaling.

Your government attempts to defend its whaling program by calling it "scientific" whaling. In reality, this deadly "scientific" whaling program is nothing more than unlawful commercial whaling in disguise. We don't need to kill whales to study them in the 21st century.

[Your comment here]

I respectfully urge you to persuade your government to withdraw its announced plans to kill 50 humpback whales and to end its unlawful whaling program.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

It is time for Japan to show the world that they are a caring people and like all civilized societies, they take responsibility for protecting wildlife everywhere. There are many sources of food available in the world that do not necessitate endangering any species.

Slaughtering whales is a crime against the planet Earth, our home. They have no defence and can't speak. Does that make them so dispensable?

Whatever "research" your government is conducting that requires the killing of any whales is NOT warrented. Please stop killing off some of the most beautiful animals our world has. They are here for a purpose and that certainly isn't for humans to make money off of.

Dear Sir: It is time for Japan to join with those who oppose the killing of whales and other sentient sea mammals. If Japan wishes to be thought of as an enlightened country it must stop killing whales. There are alternatives to all products derived from whales. Yours truly, Charles McDonald

The killing of whales is wrong, as it harms all of life on earth, to no one's advantage, except money for a few people. It is a great discredit to a people as intelligent and advanced as the Japanese that they do this. I ask the Japanese people to reconsider and stop this.

This got to stop. These Mammals should be protected and not killed for any reasons. They already have enough challenges to survive in their polluted water caused by the humain race. I believe we have caused enough damage to this world. Stop distroying what we have left.

WHY is a country that holds itself up to be so modern STILL persisting in engaging in the archaic and indeed NEEDLESS practice of killing whales? I realize Japan has a long history of denial regarding atrocities, and yet you keep commiting more in front of the entire world.
