Biologists now suspect that the first mammal to disappear from the Lower 48 states because of global warming will be the pika, a tiny rabbit that lives at high altitudes in cold regions.
Although they may be the first, pikas are certainly not alone. Scientists say that 20 to 30 percent of all species could be put on a path toward extinction if global warming continues unchecked. The Climate Security Act would not only be the biggest step ever taken to reduce global warming pollution, it also sets aside billions for conservation of natural resources affected by global warming. Global warming is already contributing to sea-level rise, intensified storms and droughts, an increase in catastrophic fires, the spreading of invasive species and a host of other ecosystem disruptions.

The cute little pika is not the only animal endangered by global Warming. Polar bears need thick enough ice for them to hunt the several species of seals they need in order for them to survive. Because of global warming the bears have been drowning being forced to swim terribly long distances to find sustainable ice on which to hunt. In addition we need to SEVERELY AND QUICKLY CLAMP DOWN ON THE TROPHY HUNTING HUMAN VERMIN, WHO STUPIDLY SHOOT POLAR BEARS IN CANADA, AND THEN HAVE THE CANADIANS EXPORT THE HIDES TO THEIR STATESIDE HOMES!! LETS CLOSE THIS LOOPHOLE IMMEDIATELY. THE CANADIANS OUGHT TO KNOW BETTER SINCE MUCH OF THEIR TOURISM IS FOR PEOPLE FROM THE LOWER 48 TO SEE AND PHOTOGRAPH THESE BEARS IN THE CHURCHILL AREA.
As for the cute little pika which does not hibernate but lives at high altitudes and gathers grasses and vegetation on which to survive the winters, they are handicapped by the lack of adequate forage available at the higher altitudes they now have to forage in and the grasses and vegetation are much sparser up there.

It is important that our country stop obstructing progress in this area. We need to start taking a leadership role. It is only by tackling this issue that we will be able to make our country more competitive in the international marketplace. It is in this manner that we will begin to modernize our economy. This will set the pace for further progress for the remainder of the century. We need to not handicap future generations by forcing them to clean up after our mistakes. Sooner is better than later. Sooner is cheaper than later.
