We exceeded our goal of 50,000 messages to the 2008 presidential candidates urging them to take a stand on global warming!

Want to know what the candidates are saying? The League of Conservation Voters is keeping a running record of statements candidates make on global warming out on the campaign trail - read it all on the The Heat Is On website.
Dear Candidate for U.S. President,

The debate is over. The National Academy of Sciences and thousands of scientists worldwide agree that the planet is warming and that human dependence on fossil fuels - such as coal and oil - is the primary cause. The problem is so urgent that the next 10 years will likely decide the outcome. There is still time to rise to the challenge, but America needs the leadership to do so.

Solving global warming will place the U.S. at the forefront of developing and deploying the clean energy technologies that will dominate the 21st century. When we solve global warming, we will have established a more secure, prosperous and vibrant America.

Nothing short of our children's future is at stake.

As you campaign for your party's presidential nomination, we ask that solving global warming be a central message and a top priority.
We signed the “Global Warming: Urge Presidential Hopefuls to Take a Stand!” petition!

We, and our children, are going to be living in a world greatly affected by global warming. Our way of life as we know it now will change dramatically; it's just a matter of time, with increased coastal-erosion problems, health crises (new infectious diseases), more forest fires, and ecological issues. It will affect our food and habitat. Support and appropriate planning must come from the top...NOW.

AS everybody is aware of the problem by now, people from all kind of walks shall be interested in hearing what you will have to say about it. It is a topic of world wide concern, not only of the USA, therefore a bigger audience. Do not talk too much about the problem, statistics, etc. Tell us how are you going to tackle it even when you know you will be fighting against created interests. You know it, donīt you. I am 68 and heard about the problem since they were calling it, pollution, enviromental contamination, etc., etc and of the lots of promises to inmediately deal with it. Unfortunately very little have been done and on the contrary, as we all are witnessing,it has become worst and worst. In this sense i have to say, I panic a the very thought of the people in power (Past and present) letting it to the next generation to solve it because if action is not taken NOW, the next generation will have nothing to stop. They will be thanking God for every extra day they would be living. If you are for the wellfare of mankind, start from home and ban all kind of industries which are going to add in global warming.

Denialism is a disorder. It is an extremely dangerous disorder that threatens to kill the human species and all animals if we allowed it to. I personally know a number of people that deny climate change. That is what has brought me to put this in the news here at Care2. This is a serious issue. If denialists are allowed to spread lies unchallenged and poison the opinions of too many people, their disinformation could easy result in many people dying. If people do not realize the truth and do not take action against global warming, the consequences will almost certainly be deadly for large numbers of people. Those people may even be you or I. If global warming continues unchecked, considerable areas of densely inhabited land will be permanently flooded. Millions will be forced to migrate to new areas. Such huge numbers of refugees will be certain to result in conflicts and great hardships. Floods and changing weather patterns will cause areas that are currently prime farmland to experience crop failures. These crop failures are likely to occur worldwide. The result will be massive famines. Huge numbers of refugees suffering from famines will be a likely breeding ground for all sorts of nasty diseases. There will be many deaths and much suffering. Hearing claims that global warming is untrue is scary. The possibility that those false claims may be believed by gullible people is even more scary. They are scary to me because their denial could very well result in death and suffering for myself, my loved ones, nature, wildlife, & humans all around the planet. http://www.care2.com/news/member/577339509/574408

Global warming can destroy our planet and also those who live in it especially us-the human race.If we keep on doing things that could contribute to the increase of temperature,as the years go by,we'll all end up dead.

Without a viable planet earth, what point is there to address any political issue? This has to be be number one. Think of it another way; of all the jobs it could create world wide and having positive economical outcome for all countries.

If we as a nation do not pool together and begin to RESPECT the environment around us we will continue to leave a legacy of filth and selfishness in our wake. And that is not the legacy I want for my children and grandchildren.

Our national anthem ends with the words, "...the land of the free, and the home of the brave." There will be no freedom in this country--or on the planet--unless great measures are taken to halt and reverse global warming. Your bravery is needed to instigate immediate action for change.
