We exceeded our goal of 50,000 messages to the 2008 presidential candidates urging them to take a stand on global warming!

Want to know what the candidates are saying? The League of Conservation Voters is keeping a running record of statements candidates make on global warming out on the campaign trail - read it all on the The Heat Is On website.
Dear Candidate for U.S. President,

The debate is over. The National Academy of Sciences and thousands of scientists worldwide agree that the planet is warming and that human dependence on fossil fuels - such as coal and oil - is the primary cause. The problem is so urgent that the next 10 years will likely decide the outcome. There is still time to rise to the challenge, but America needs the leadership to do so.

Solving global warming will place the U.S. at the forefront of developing and deploying the clean energy technologies that will dominate the 21st century. When we solve global warming, we will have established a more secure, prosperous and vibrant America.

Nothing short of our children's future is at stake.

As you campaign for your party's presidential nomination, we ask that solving global warming be a central message and a top priority.
We signed the “Global Warming: Urge Presidential Hopefuls to Take a Stand!” petition!

The world leaders and governments really need to start to make some big changes. There is only so much we can do on an individual basis - the world needs a bit more than a few sustainable light bulbs. Stop talking and act!

Humans do not own the Earth. It is to be shared with every other creature that lives on it and it is our responsibility to clean up the mess we've made so that other species aren't forced to adapt to the changes we are causing. Global Warming is an international problem that effects everyone....put a stop to global warming now!!

I am uneasy about everyone's GW policies. This is the single most important issue influencing jobs, foreign policy, education, social justice - it MUST infiltrates every single aspect of governing this country. I believe Richardson had the best plan out there, now I don't know who I will be voting for. Voting for me will depend on who the candidates plan to put in their cabinets - who is the VP, who is sctr'y of interior, who is in DOE, and on the education front - who is in dept of education - are they teachers who will teach environmental policy and evolution?? At this point I am undecided until the candidates (dems and repubs) come up with those answers

The global warming crisis needs to be at the forefront now to save future generations. The next president could go down in history by taking or not taking enough action on this global concern.

It is about time our next president takes a stand on global warming. I being of the generation who will have to face it will not stand for anything less. I will not die when i am fourty or fifty years old because of this. We need to do something about it while we can! I DO NOT mean lowering oil emissions by 2050 that's ridiculous. It will be too late by then. Please do something, or we will have you to blame.

I want there to be world for my three kids to grow up and live in. 50 years from now, if we don't do something, the world will be a dangerous place. Someday when I have grandkids, I want them to know what polar bears are. I want a clean Earth for my descendants to live in.

If we don't do something about global warming, we will destroy the planet as well as the lives of our children and future generations to come. No one has the right to ruin the planet. As American's, we should set an example.

If globall warming continues at this rate, we will soon evolve to marine creatures, with finns and guills. To say the least. Because the more approprate ending will be evolving to a couple of white bones in the sands of the planet surface. stop killing our children!

Is global warming real? I don't know I am not a scientist, nor do I have the time or skills to analyze the data. What I do know is we can not afford to risk it. What will tougher environmental standards cause? Clean air? What is the harm for increasing miles per gallon requirements and utilizing more renewable energy? The United States is traditionaly a reactive society. I know it is easier to justify an expense if the cause is upon us, but what if we are now in the reactive phase and are still not reacting? The measures we take today, albeit at a cost to society today, will only help future generations.
